What is an automatic order?

When a divorce action is commenced automatic orders go into place. These orders ensure that everything stays status quo once the divorce has commenced. This means that no insurance can be changed, no big purchases can be made, no transfer or removal of money can occur, etc. This leaves the parties on the same playing field they were on when they were married so neither party is at a disadvantage once the divorce commences. If a party violates these terms, they can be held in contempt of court because they are violating a court order.
