When finalizing a divorce, the spouse paying child support will be required to get a life insurance policy, if they do not already have one. The reason for this is because they are the spouse paying to support the child/children, there needs to be something in place god forbid something happens to them and there is no longer child support being paid. The life insurance policy would continue to make payments to the other spouse that would be the same as receiving child support payments. The need for a life insurance policy is important so there is always a mechanism to support the child/children in the event the payor spouse passes away.
