
BIOGRAPHY
Michele Olsen is an associate in the matrimonial and family law department of Capetola & Divins, P.C., and has been engaged in the practice of matrimonial and family law since her admission to the Bar in 2002. She has a broad education and professional experiences in related areas, making her particularly suited for the emotional, psychological and legal aspects of a matrimonial action.
Ms. Olsen received her Bachelor of Arts from Hofstra University (1989) and is a graduate of St. John’s University School of Law (2001). She also holds a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Hofstra University (1992) and a Master’s in Social Work (With a focus on psychiatric and drug related issues) from Adelphi University (1996).
Ms. Olsen is responsible for handling matrimonial and family law cases from inception to completion and has assisted in and conducted numerous trials and hearings involving complex custody, equitable distribution and support issues. Ms. Olsen has assisted in the preparation of an article in the Nassau Lawyer entitled “The Valuation of a Closely Held Business” and has a chapter on domestic violence and child abuse in the book entitled “Family Scripts” by Dr. Joan Atwood. Ms. Olsen is a member of the Nassau County Bar Association, the New York Family Law Inns of Court and has sat as an Early Neutral Evaluator for the Nassau County Supreme Court and is active in the Nassau Bar’s Matrimonial Committee and the Family Court Law and Procedure Committee. Ms. Olsen is also the founder and former Chairperson of the Animal Law Committee of the Nassau County Bar Association.
Ms. Olsen has handled numerous high profile cases involving the rights of animal and their owners; has moderated and lectured at the Bar on legal issues pertaining to animals; has been a guest on radio programs in New York and the United Kingdom regarding animals and the law; is of counsel to numerous animal shelters and non-profit organizations and is the founder and former Chairperson of the Animal Law Committee of the Nassau County Bar Association, where she has organized and lectured at Continuing Legal Education Programs for both attorneys and the public regarding animal issues in matrimonial and family law.
