Life insurance once you are divorced

If there is one spouse paying the other spouse monthly child support, they will be asked to maintain a life insurance policy after the divorce with their child(ren) as the beneficiary and their spouse listed as a trustee.

The purpose of this policy is to ensure that if the supporting spouse passes away, the other spouse will be able to access the money to continue to receive support for their child(ren). This is the only way to guarantee that the custodial parent will be able to support their child(ren) god forbid something happens to their ex-spouse.
