Extracurriculars & Back to School

Summer is coming to an end and school is just around the corner. With the
new school year comes the various activities, school events, and the
extracurricular activities the children want to or need to participate it - - and
which are often on a different schedule than the year before. This can be an
added complication for parties who are embroiled in a divorce and have an
interim parenting schedule. This can even be a complication for those who are
already divorced as there are no sports leagues, dance classes, or music lessons
for divorced parents that are just during that parent’s parenting time.
It is important that if you are in the midst of a divorce, that you and your
spouse adjust your parenting time schedule to allow for the change in the
children’s schedule. If you are unable to amicably adjust the parenting time
schedules, you must bring this issue to your attorney’s attention sooner rather
than later so they can take the necessary steps to modify the parenting
schedule.
If you are already divorced, it is equally important to try to work out any
adjustments to parenting time that need to be made to accommodate the
children’s extracurricular schedule. If you are unable to amicably adjust the
parenting time schedules, you may have to make an application for a
modification of parenting time.
