If law enforcement has probable cause to make an arrest, they are lawfully able to place an individual under arrest without an arrest warrant. What is probable cause? Probable cause is defined as information sufficient to support a reasonable belief that a crime has been committed. This is a very low standard and does not mean you will be convicted of the crime for which you are under arrest for.
The courts have ruled probable cause exists if a known person signs a sworn statement accusing you of a specific crime. Thus, if a complainant signs a sworn statement otherwise known as a supporting deposition, identifying themselves and alleges a specific crime, this statement gives the police probable cause to arrest you without an arrest warrant.
